BAPTISM

Baptisms are celebrated at any of our parish liturgies, weekend and weekday. Those wishing to celebrate a baptism outside the Mass can do so at 12:00 pm on the last Sunday of the month. We do not baptize during Lent. Parents are asked to attend a one session baptismal preparation program. The schedule is printed in the parish bulletin. After attending the session, you can call the Parish Office to schedule a date and time for the baptism. Baptismal sponsors should be practicing, confirmed Catholics. Only one sponsor is necessary. A second sponsor may belong to another Christian denomination but must be baptized and practicing their faith.
FIRST EUCHARIST

Our parish celebrates First Eucharist in the Easter Season. Families may select one of the parish Masses on a schedule announced early in the year. This great moment marks a watershed in every Catholic's life: sharing at the Table of the Lord. Preparation in both the school and the Religious Education Program includes a special parent orientation, a parent/child event, and a rehearsal. Children work with a special book to prepare for this sacrament. Generally children must be 7 years old and/or in the 2nd grade.
RECONCILIATION

Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on Saturdays at 9:00 am. Please consult the bulletin or call the office. Preparation for First Reconciliation generally takes place in the 2nd grade. Classroom preparation is augmented with a special book. There is also an evening for parents which is required. This session reviews current church teaching on this sacrament. Rite II is used (Communal Penance with individual absolution). Families are encouraged to join their youngster for this celebration.
CONFIRMATION

Consistent with the policy of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Confirmation takes place in the Junior year of high school, age 16. Students who wish to be confirmed must register as parishioners and return pledges for Time, Talent and Treasure. There is a required Confirmation retreat and four special Confirmation classes are held with St. Monica Parish in Whitefish Bay. In mid-winter, students are asked to complete an assessment form and to discuss it with the pastor or his delegate. Only then is the student officially accepted as a candidate for Confirmation. Confirmation takes place in the Easter Season. Students may choose a special Confirmation name. Their sponsor must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic. The sponsor will be asked to get a testimonial letter signed from his/her own parish. Confirmation candidates are expected to participate regularly in the Sunday evening Life-Teen program.
MATRIMONY

Couples should call the parish soon after their engagement, preferably before renting a hall. Marriage is a most serious moment in life and every effort is made to assist couples in preparing for it. After meeting with the pastor and filling out the initial papers, other parishioners assist in marriage preparation. Couples will meet with the Director of Music & Liturgy to prepare the wedding liturgy. All must join in the FOCCUS inventory, an Archdiocesan Day for the Engaged, a special Parish Day for the Engaged, and other preparations as each situation warrants. Those who have not been married before require about 6 months for preparation. Those who have been married before may require more time to pursue a Declaration of Invalidity or other church requirements. Couples must present a new baptismal certificate. (It is preferred but not mandatory that the Catholic party be confirmed.) Couples are encouraged to keep their weddings simple, in accord with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Only two witnesses are required by civil and church law. Generally weddings take place on a Friday evening or Saturday afternoon. The time is determined by the couple and the pastor, but no Saturday wedding may begin later than 2:00 PM in order to allow time to prepare for the evening Mass.
COMMUNION

Most local hospitals do not call the parish. If you or a member of your family is hospitalized, please call the parish office. A number of volunteers assist in bringing Communion to hospitals and homes.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK

Each First Friday the Sacrament of the Sick is available at the 8:00 am Mass. Once a year in autumn there is also a Communal Anointing of the Sick. Please watch the bulletin for the dates. This sacrament is also available as needed. When anticipating surgery, please call in advance. Prior to Vatican II this sacrament was called Extreme Unction and was delayed until the last possible moment. This is no longer the understanding of this powerful sacrament. It is always preferred that families or other members of the community be present to participate in this sacrament.
